Gaffling Dinghy Sails for the First Time

Arnside Sailing Club’s new Gaffling 4.1 dinghy was sailed for the first time at the Arnside Classic Boat Regatta last weekend under genoa and oars alone as we are still awaiting the delivery of the gaff jaws. The Gaffling dinghy designed by Andrew Wolstenholme is promoted by the OGA as an entry level boat to gaff rig sailing. There are the first world Gaffling championships at the OGA Celebrations at Levington south of Ipswich at the start of August. Arnside’s Gaffling Dinghy was funded by a National Lottery Heritage Grant to restore Severn a yacht owned by the Sailing Club, which was built in Arnside in 1912. It was built by three teenagers who went on a course at Fyne Boats, south of Kendal to learn how to build it and finished off by club volunteers, including John Stride
