The Club’s President Lawrie Woodburn sadly passed away at the end of July. Lawrie was a member of the club for nearly 50 years. He was Commodore from 1989 – 1992, President of the Club Trustee’s from 2016 and also served as Club Secretary, Treasurer, Vice and Rear Commodore at different times.. He was an architect. His advise on planning matters was invaluable to Club.
He kept a yacht, Brigante, a 23 foot Snapdragon cruiser on the estuary, sailing her to the Isle of Man, Ireland, West Cumbria and Scotland. He took part in dinghy sailing and racing, teaching his sons to sail on a Graduate dinghy. His first boat with the club was a Minisail, a predecessor to a Topper. Lawrie was a member of Arnside Coastguard for 20 years, taking part in many rescues and being part of a team that received three commendations for rescues. He was a greater raconteur of stories. He played an important part in securing the 99 year lease for the current dinghy park.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie, sons Tim and Ben, grandchildren Callum and Fiona, Dylan, Archie and Felix and great-grandsons Carter and Theodore, Our sympathy goes out to them.
