Coronavirus – Water Sports now allowed on a limited basis

From May 13th, under the Government’s easing of Lockdown Restrictions,  water sports are allowed on a limited basis. You can take part in water sports either by yourself or with other members of your family. You may not sail, paddle or canoe with anybody else.  The Dinghy Park and Club Craft are now available for use by members.

Whilst the Club is keen to give as many of members as possible a chance to go out  on the water as possible, we still need to have measures in place to restrict the spread of the virus.

The main risks are

  1. A large number of people gathering in the dinghy park making it difficult to keep 2 metres apart
  2. Somebody needing to be rescued coming in close physical contact with other people
  3. The virus spread by people touching surfaces

We do not plan running any formal sessions either at low tide or at high tide till the restrictions are further eased. If you are using the Sailing Club’s facilities please remember you are doing so as an individual or family group rather than taking part in a Sailing Club activity.

1. Activities available to members

a. Sailing

Sailing at high tide is restricted to members and cadets who can sail unassisted on the conditions on the day and are unlikely to need rescuing. Club boats are available for use.

Parents with safety boat qualifications may take out the small safety boat to supervise their children sailing

At low tide anybody can sail. Parents are free to use club boats to teach their children sailing

b. Canoeing

Anybody can take out club canoes at either low or high tide. We are buying some additional sit on top canoes to enable more people to canoe.

c. Paddle Boarding

Paddle Boards may be taken out by members who are experienced at either low or high tide. Club Paddle Boards should be delivered early in June. We hope to offer paddle board lessons at some point over the summer.

2. Booking System

To limit the number of people in the Dinghy Park , we have introduced a booking system. At any one time there should be not be people from more than 3 or 4 households in the Dinghy Park. (made up of either individuals or family groups). For a link to the booking calendar contact arnsidesc.sailing@gmail.com

On the booking system can you record your name, the number of people in your party and the boats you plan taking out. Even if you are using your own boat can you use the booking system.

3. On Entering and Leaving the Dinghy Park

Clean your hands using the hand sanitizers on the picnic table.

4. Social Distancing

Observe social distancing. Keep to your own household group. Allow at least 2 metres between you and any other groups

5. Changing

Please change at home or in your car. Government Regulation do not permit sports club to open changing facilities, which includes the caravan.

6. Buoyancy Aids

Members can use club buoyancy aids. After use wash them in soapy water in the bucket by the garage and hang them up to dry on the line by the caravan

7. Helmets

Members and their children are free to use club helmets. As there is no obvious way of cleaning them, they should be taken home at the end of the session and borrowed  till the end of the season

8. Gloves

Members are encouraged to wear clean gloves when taking part in water sports

9. Cleaning Boats and Equipment after use

Boats and equipment including paddles should be cleaned after use with the disinfectant spray provided, concentrating on high touch areas.

10. Weather

Check the weather before going out. Do not go out in winds that are too strong for you.
