The sessions are suitable for people who have been on a RYA Level 1 course, born age sailors or people who want to brush up on their sailing skills.
Our club nights at Killington on Thursday evenings are also excellent way to improve your skills
Jane Caldwell, a born again sailor after a gap of 20 years, who has recently been on our improver sessions said.
“My handling of the tiller/mainsheet when tacking wasn’t as smooth as it should have been or where the centre board should be when gybing to help stay upright and not experience that awful tilt of the hull when the boom swings across!!! How to stop, that is go into irons. I had a very frustrating race, good winds, but after tacking found myself in irons watching the rest of the competitors go past. No amount of frustration helped me get out of the dead eye, but now I know what to do! Also stopping for a purpose, to pick up a buoy or man over board or come along side a jetty. My poor imaginary ‘lady buoys’ Flo and Tilly, had to ‘tread water’ for a while longer as I sailed on by or didn’t quite make the mark!
Most of all putting these new found and re worked techniques into place has helped me to become more confident and I’m enjoying the feeling. So look out for dates for Improvers sessions and get yourself booked on, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.”
