Racing Programme

We run a dinghy racing programme starting in April till the end of October.

Racing can be great fun. It is a good of improving your skills and meeting other members. We encourage experienced members to sail with less experience ones so that every one has a good chance of winning.

Types of races include

Class Races: Where all boats are the same type. e.g. Hartley 12s

Handicap Races: For mixed fleets. Each class of boat has its own handicap based on its speed.  At the end of  a race, finish times are adjusted for the class of boat, which means that the boat that finishes first may not necessarily be the winner.

Personal Handicaps We have introduced personal handicaps based on a person's position in previous races to give others a greater chance of winning.

Channel Races: Where the tide is less 8.5 metres, racing is more or less confined to the main channel which makes for exciting racing as boats are closer together.

Pursuit Races - Where the slowest boats set off first and the faster boats have to catch them
