Help us raise £40,000 to restore Severn, our 1912 Crossfields’ yacht, so we can have her out on the water sailing again. Even a small £10 donation will help.
Severn was built in Arnside by William Crossfield and Sons at their Beach Walk Boatyard in 1912. Crossfields of Arnside were leading builders of yachts and Morecambe Bay Prawners. In 2018 Severn was brought by the Sailing Club with the help of a Heritage Lottery grant to have an example of a Crossfield’s boat in the village
Whilst we are happy to accept large donations, lots of small donations would show popular support for the project and help us secure grant funding. If you agree to gift aid your donation, we can claim 25% back from the Government.
The proposed work includes
a) Replacing her internal frames
The framework holds the boat together. Whilst it is difficult to see in the below photos, the frames are either soft, rotten, cracked, split or have come apart from the hull.
b) Repairing her keel
c) Fitting a new engine – The current engine is underpowered, old and unreliable
d) Returning the boat to her original historic appearance with an open cockpit. This will allow us to take more people out on her at Arnside.
The work will be done by David Moss a traditional boat builder based at Skippool near Poulton-le-Fylde.
