Severn Sails Again

Severn, Arnside Sailing Club’s historic yacht was sailed for the first time following her four year £150,000 restoration by David Moss Boatbuilders at Skippool near Blackpool. Severn was built in Arnside by Crossfields in 1912 as one of ten boats for the Royal Mersey Yacht Club.

A launch event was held at Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club also at Skippool on Sat 16th May.

Burgees were presented to Severn by Ian Diamond, Rear Commodore of Royal Mersey Yacht Club and Val Hockey, Commodore of Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club.

Lune Tide performed the Severn Song. The song was written by Mike Greenwood, whose father and uncle sailed on Severn in the 192os.

It is planned to sail Severn from Skippool to Roa Island near Barrow at the end of May. Severn will be based at Roa Island coming up to Arnside on Spring Tides.
